Elizabeth Arden vs Garnier: Battle of the Makeup Removers

For a long while I've been hearing the hype surrounding the Garnier Micellar water and how it amazing it is.  I've been trying to find it with no avail until a some weeks ago when I spotted the last bottle at Farmers.  I found it just in time as I was almost out of my Elizabeth Arden Makeup Remover.

I thought I might do a comparison of the two because they quite similar but yet different.

Price
I got both of these from Farmers. The Garnier Micellar Water is $12.99 and is 400 ml.  The Elizabeth Arden Makeup Remover is $51.00 and is 100 ml.  In just comparing this you definitely get more for your money with the Garnier, it's cheaper but yet has more product than it's expensive counterpart.

Similarities
Both products are very effective in taking off makeup easily.  They're pretty much similar in that respect. You also don't need to use much product as well, your makeup pretty much glides off.

Differences
There are more of these then similarities as you will see.  The Elizabeth Arden is more oil based so when I use it my face kind of gets like an oily cover which made it very soft and weird.  My face also felt amazing once I washed my face afterwards.  You don't get that with the Garnier and it leaves my face a little dry so you definitely need to moisturise afterwards.

The Elizabeth Arden is also more effective in taking off mascara (probably since it is oil based).  When I used the Garnier on my eyes my mascara doesn't budge at all, so these days I been forgoing the mascara cause I can't be bothered trying to get it off.

Result
The Elizabeth Arden is somewhat better, it should be since it's way more expensive, but I do love the Garnier just as much. I'll keep getting the Garnier as it's much cheaper (if I can find it again) and they do have a remover for eye makeup so it will be interesting to see how good it is.

Stuff I bought off eBay #002

I'm pretty sure I can thank Cass for a number of purchases I've made because everything she blogs about is amazing. Case in point this brush which I saw her post about I think a month ago. Whenever I see the words 'cheap' and 'eBay' I have to have a look and on that particular day I was feeling spendy and bought it.

Cass said it was pretty good for contouring. I myself am a contouring novice so I'm not exactly sure why I got it but now that it's mine it can't hurt to do some practice.

What I do know is that it is very soft so if I don't ever use it I can just touch it and rub it on my face (that's not weird right?).

Hope you all enjoyed this post! xoxo

NOTD Essie Bobbing for Baubles

I got this colour a couple of months ago which you can read about here.

I've never had a colour like this and it's not usually one I'd go for but I was feeling adventurous and got it.

In the bottle it looks like a dark navy blue and to me it looks even darker/borderline black on my nails.  It's kind of like a bluey black rather than a navy.  I'm not entirely sure about the colour yet, maybe I just need to get use to it.  I think the name is cute though.

The formula is runny so make sure you don't' have a lot on the brush, a little goes a long way.

Life: University Research Essay

For today's post I thought I'd might do something art related so I'm sharing what I'm working on at the moment for my big essay as that's the only thing I have on my mind at the moment.

I'm looking at the Poesie paintings that were commissioned by Philip II of Spain and done by Titian.

Danaë with a Nurse, 1553-54

Venus and Adonis, 1554

Diana and Actaeon, 1556-59

Diana and Callisto, 1556-59

Perseus and Andromeda, 1554-56

Rape of Europa, 1559-62

(Images from Web Gallery of Art)

It took me a while to come up with an angle that hadn't been done before. The most common angle is comparing the paintings to the poems of Ovid which the subject matter is derived from. Other avenues include looking at the paintings as visual poetry, tragedies and the iconography.

After much stress and panic I think I've settled into looking at the paintings as messengers of power.  They were for Philip II of Spain, son of Charles V the Holy Roman Emperor, and were commissioned not long before he was betrothed and married to Queen Mary I of England.  Portraits were usually used to show power but I've thought of a couple of ways in which these paintings convey Philip's power as King of both Spain and then England.

Hope you all enjoyed this post! This is pretty much what my life revolves around plus all the other assignments I have. At least they're pretty to look at. xx

Stuff I bought off EBay #001

EBay is a magical place. I always seem to find some cool stuff that is only a couple of dollars. That and plus free shipping makes me very happy.

My friends birthday was coming up and I knew she liked necklaces and Harry Potter so of course I searched EBay. I got her the time-turner necklace that Hermione used in the Prisoner of Azkaban and I also decided to buy myself something.

I first saw a Deathly Hallows Necklace on Mighty Ape but I didn't like that it was black. I liked this one because it was gold and it wasn't too big.  I also loved the long chain, I've been liking longer necklaces lately.

While it did take some time to get here I'm so happy I got it. It's simple which I'm also loving at the moment with just the triangle and the circle.

I bought the necklace here. It was only NZ$1.09 and there was free shipping.

Graduation Gifts

I graduated last Monday and before we left my Mum gave some graduation presents! Can you tell I was excited? :p

When I saw the Pandora bag I got excited but I of course opened the card first because that's just what you're suppose to do.

I got another ring, which I'm kinda loving at the moment. It's made of a series of infinity rings, it's silver apart from one that's gold. I love it. It's the wrong size so I haven't worn it yet.

I also got another charm for my bracelet.  My Mum is obsessed with owls so when I saw it I just thought she got it because it was a owl, then I realised it had a graduation cap on. It's so cute and is a nice addition.

Hope you all enjoyed this post! xoxo

Graduation Hair

I've been meaning to get a hair cut for a while now and last Friday I finally got one.  Graduation was on Monday and I've been sick of my hair.

As per usual I got some length taken off and I finally took the plunge and got a fringe!!!!!

So yeah, I'm pretty happy with it apart from the annoying waves in my fringe and the fact it still parts in the middle.

Hope you all enjoyed this post! Have a great weekend and Mothers Day xoxo

Farmers Haul #001

So last week my Mum and I went on a little trip into Farmers in hopes of finding a dress for Graduation. SPOILER ALERT: we didn't find one buuuuut I did find some other stuff which I liked and bought home with me.

Zeest! Weekend Grey Cardigan
I love this thing, I've pretty much worn it everyday to uni. It's long sleeved, warm, is really long and it has pockets.  It's one of those cardigans you put on and snuggle into when it's a cold day.

No Issue Leather Jacket
I've wanted a leather jacket for the longest time but just couldn't find one I liked. I loved this as soon as I saw it.  There was only a few left and thankfully there was one in my size.  It also has a hood but you can remove it which I thought was pretty cool.

Urban Precinct Pink Jumper
There was only one left and was a bigger size than I would usually get but then I was like it's a jumper the bigger the better. So yeah. The colour is a bit of a giveaway why I love it, it's soft and in the front you can see a floral design which I thought was pretty.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water
I've been looking everywhere for this. Both my local New World and Countdown don't have it at all so I was feeling pretty defeated.  While at Farmers I decided to see if there was any and there was ONE BOTTLE LEFT. So naturally I took it before anybody else could. It's amazing, pretty similar to my $45 makeup remover.

Hope you all enjoyed this post! Farmers where having a sale at the time so some of these things were discounted YAY xoxo
