Gemstone Collection

I'm obsessed with pretty things, from clothes, makeup, jewellery and also gemstones.  Every year my family and I used to go to our section in Pauanui and after the New Year there would always be a craft fair.  There was always some good stuff but my favourite stall was the one selling the gemstones.

Cass had written some posts on her collection which I love so I thought I'd share my collection.

Purple Amethyst
I'm pretty sure this was the first stone I got, I was wanting an amethyst.  I knew amethysts brought good luck and also healing and protection apparently.  The fact that it is purple was also factor in wanting to have it.

Rose Quartz
I just love the colour of the stone, a pretty baby pink which was entirely the reason why I got it.  Rose quartz is associate with love and apparently can balance emotions and bring peace and calm. This stone sounds perfect for me.

Moonstone
I've always wanted a moonstone, they just looked so mystical and pretty.  I got a little info sheet with it and you're suppose to leave outside during a thunderstorm so it can 'charge'.  These are healing stones and can be used to cure sickness. This sounds very useful especially now it's starting to get colder.

Pink Heart
I'm not sure if this is another rose quartz stone but it's gorgeous.  When I saw it I knew I had to have it.  It's lighter in the middle and darker pink on the edges and is heart shaped. It's smooth, shiny and is just nice to look at.

Hope you all enjoyed this post! xxx

Childhood Jobs

So last week my Uncle had a birthday party and while I was there I had this conversation with my young cousin.

Her: Do you go to college?
Me: Yeah, I go to university.
Her: Is that where you go when you want to learn what you want to do?
Me: Um, yep.
Her: What do you want to do?
Me: Um something to do with galleries and museums.
Her: Oh, that's big... I want to be a teacher

It was cute to hear that she wanted to be a teacher especially since her aunt, my cousin, is one.

It got me thinking about when I was young and all the jobs I wanted to do when I grew up. When I thought about it I realised I went from one direction to another.

The first job I can remember I wanted to do was to be a dentist. I have no clue where it came from especially at my Primary School there was a separate building for the dentist when they came and the students all called it the murder house.   I also don't like blood that much and people's mouths are disgusting so I have no idea what caused me to want to go into dentistry.

I was creative when I was younger and I would come up with little short stories as well as paint pictures. Calf Club was my favourite time of year as went spent most of the time doing our art which was to be judged.  When I started high school I knew I wanted to do something with art, maybe even become an artist. From I think Yr 12 I decided I wanted to do design and even thought of studying it at Uni.

In the middle of Yr 13 I did a complete 360 and just started to hate design, I realised that I wasn't very good at it. My love then went to Art History which I also took in Yr 13 and then majored in for my BA and now I'm studying it at Honours level.

I have a lot of interest that I want to pursue. Art History; working in a museum or gallery is one of them as well as tourism. My dream job would be working in a museum/gallery somewhere in Europe and being able to travel a lot.

Hope you all enjoyed this post! I'd love to know what you wanted to do when you were younger. It's interesting to see if you've stuck to it or completely changed.

NOTD Essie Blanc + Stroke of Brilliance + Toggle to the Top

As soon as I got the Essie nail polishes from Wednesday's post I immediately had to put them on my nails.

I hadn't yet tried Blanc and thought it would look great with the glitter.

Essie Blanc + Stroke of Brilliance

Essie Blanc + Toggle to the Top

I think Blanc and Stroke of Brilliance look great together but I'm sure about the other pairing. I think Toggle to the Top would look amazing with a red.

Hope you all enjoyed this post and have a great long weekend! xoxo

Once'it #004

You all know I love to procrastinate and one of the things I love to do is online shopping. So one day I decided to have a look on Once'it and to my delight there was an Essie sale! I debated on it for a couple of days but finally gave in and bought a couple.

There was quite a lot to choose from but none of the colours really caught my attention but then I spied something glittery and pounced.

Toggle to the Top
I've wanted this colour ever since I saw it on Cass's blog and I couldn't find it anywhere else.  The colour is gorgeous, it's a deep red and the glitter just makes more magical.  I was surprised when I put it on as it's more like a regular polish in that it's solid, not just glitter that goes on top of another colour.

Stroke of Brilliance
I was tossing up between this one and a gold one but went with this one as the blue just calls to me. It's my favourite shade of blue and it's sparkly, win win all round.

Hope you all enjoyed this post! xxx

My Favourite Thing #34

It's been a while since I've done one of these posts so I thought I would bring it back cause there is a lot of things I'm excited about :D

Essie Nail Polish
I went from having none to now having seven within a space of two weeks. I'm obsessed with them. I love the colours, the design of the bottle and just everything really. I got two more this week, they'll be on the blog next week and they're gorgeous. I'm now excited to paint my nails again, before I just couldn't be bothered as the colours I had were boring.

Game of Thrones
I am so excited this show is finally back! A year or so ago I just one of those people wondering why people were obsessed with this show so I decided to start watching it. Long story short I binged watched it within a couple of months and I love it, I even bought a figure of Daenerys Targaryen while at Movie World.

I'm also excited about Orphan Black starting again I think in a couple of days!!!!

Uni Break
This was the last week of break and I feel that two weeks was not enough.  It's good to have a bit of a breather from classes, gives me a chance to organise what I have to do so it's in a logical way and I won't freak out about it.

I also graduate early next month. Last night I hired all the graduation regalia which is scary but exciting. Means I'll get some physical proof of my degree that took three years.

Hope you all enjoyed this post and have a great weekend! xoxo

Dealing with Stress

As far as I can remember I've been a very anxious person. I get anxious and stressed about many things; social situations and school/uni are probably the main two I deal with.  I just overthink and stress about everything, most of which is out of my control.  I'm no expert on how to deal with stress but I thought I would share how I deal with it.

I'm doing Honours at uni and like with my BA I procrastinate pretty much all of the time. I can't concentrate on work for long periods of time and end up spending hours on YouTube. Procrastination of course leads to less time to actually do work which means I have to rush and be stressed about it all.

But sometimes procrastination can be good. It gives your mind a break from thinking about a certain thing and when you return you'll have fresh eyes to then figure out what you were doing.  Ever since uni started I've been trying to figure out the main argument of my big research essay. I've seen what's already been done but for the life of me I can't come up with something that hasn't been done already (though I think I've solved it now).

On Sunday instead of hiding away in my room on my laptop I went out to watch my sister's football game. It was really good to get out of the house, outside and into a new environment. I gave me a chance to breath and not have to think about work.  Getting outside and going for a walk is great as well and it's exercise, good for your body and your brain.

Like I mentioned before I like to escape stress by watching long amounts of YouTube, vlogs mostly as other people's lives seem more interesting than mine.

Listening to music also helps, it takes my mind of everything and I just tend to sing along and dance.

Binge watching TV shows is also something. I've recently started watching Charmed again from the beginning. Who remembers that show? I loved it when I was younger, think it was something to do with witches. Also Game of Thrones is finally back! God I've missed it.

And of course there's online shopping which isn't good for my bank balance but hey whatever makes you happy and for me there is nothing more exciting than getting presents in the mail.

Hope you all enjoyed this post! Like I said before this is how I deal with stress, you could do totally different things which is great.  P.S Some online shopping came today and I am supper happy!!!!

Class Trip Billy Apple

I'm doing Honours in Art History at university and one of the papers I'm taking is about curating; the history of the role, what it means today. Basically what the job is.  A couple of weeks ago we went on a little class trip to the Auckland Art Gallery and went through the Billy Apple retrospective with the coordinating curator Stephen Cleland.  He talked about the art that was there, the logistical problems of getting the art and putting it in such as the motorbikes and just talked about his role as a curator.

It was a good thing I listened as we had to role play a curator in class and my partner and I got him.

These pictures are from when I went in on Wednesday, it's a great exhibition and it's free so you have no excuse not to go.

I also wandered around the rest of the gallery and found this really cool.

Hope you all enjoyed this post! xxx

Gold Coast Memories

I warn you now this post is predominantly made up of photos.  These photos trigger memories of my trip to the Gold Cost, the places we'd been, the sights, the heat.  I had the best time; we mostly shopped, went to Sea World as well as Movie World and we came across a snake which we have now learned wasn't Australian and is now somewhere in the Gold Coast.  Anyway enjoy!

Where we stayed was an apartment building rather than a hotel. We were on the 26th floor (eeek! Mum did not like it at all) and had views of the ocean as well as the city.  On the city side we could see the trams and across the road there was a mini putt and two crazy rides. Pretty much every night we could hear screams from people on them.  I loved the view, especially at night when it was all lit up.

Aussie Buys

As you may or may not know a couple of weeks ago I went to the Gold Coast for a week with my family.  It was amazing, it was different but familiar and of course the heat was intense.  I came back with a slight tan (it's a miracle!) and of course my suitcase was a bit heavier with my purchases.  I was very reserved with my buying, much more so than my siblings, but I got some great things.

This the first thing I got and it from David Jones Warehouse (strange place). My hair is pretty much flat and boring all day everyday so I've been wanting some curlers and these were half price! And they're purple too which is awesome.

These are from Target and they're just a nice lounging around pair of pants that are just cool. I also got a pair of jandals from Target as I only bought shoes and boots and underestimated how hot it was.

We went to Sea World and Movie World while we were there (Sea World was my fav). I didn't get anything from Sea World even though I was tempted but I gave in at Movie World when I saw this.  As you can see it's a figure of Daenerys Targaryen with a dragon. It's soooo cool, I love it so much.

First of all Kmart is amazing and I looooove it <3 <3 Pretty much as soon as we walked in clothes went straight into the basket.  I got two pairs of jeans, one 3/4 and the other pair is full length and is actually more jeggings than actual jeans. I also got another black skater skirt because you can never have too many.

I got the shirt above which I really love. I'm obsessed with peter pan collars and just collars in general and love the whole shirt under a jumper look. I just think it looks cool and would look great with jeans or a skirt.

The cardigan has to be my favourite thing that I have ever got. It's so fluffy, soft and warm. Honestly it's the best thing ever. It came in three colours; grey, white and pink. I was tossing up between the white and pink but pink won out because it's me and I just pick pink over anything. I do still want the white one though, and the grey one too...

I also got a shirt from Quicksilver which is actually a guys shirt but I liked it. It's grey with maroon sleeves and pocket.

I got these on our last full day and I'm obsessed with them. They are from a brand called Colette by Colette Hayman and these bags were part of their half price sale. YAY FOR SALES.

I'm obsessed (I'm using this word a lot) with satchel bags and the one I was using before as my handbag was not good.  When I saw the white satchel I knew it was to be mine, it's gorgeous and classic.

When I saw the black bag I immediately thought it was such an Anna bag, yes that was my first thought #obsessed.  It's big enough so I can put my books in it for uni, and I just love the simple lock detail.

No trip to Aussie is not complete without a visit to Priceline. I wasn't really feeling it when I looked at the makeup but then the Essie stand caught my eye and I had to get some. They were on sale for $13 which is pretty much like $1o cheaper than it is in NZ.  I of course got Blanc, thanks to Cass I've been convinced this is an important staple to have. Like I said in last weeks Essie Post I've not been all that into bright colours, more nudes and demure colours so I decided on these two.

As you can see my pink obsession returns; the lighter pink is Eternal Optimist which I strive to be everyday but it's hard and the other is In Stitches.

Hope you all enjoyed this post! There might possibly be another Essie post in the future as Once'it have a sale on :0 This is not helping my self control.

March Beauty Box

Beauty Review is an awesome site in which you can find as well do your own reviews of products.  It's great when you are looking to buy and want to see how good it is before you take the leap and spend your money.  If you're a member you can also get sent products to review which is great.  Another great thing is Beauty Boxes, it's kind of like a mystery box. You don't know what's in it but you know it's going to be amazing. I bit the bullet and bought the March one way back last year and it arrived while I was in Australia.

The last image is what I got in the box. I chose to have an exfoliator and was happy to see it was from Skinfood as I already have their mud mask and love.

I haven't tried much of it yet but I'm pretty sure the lipstick isn't for me. It's in the shade Angle Pink which is really light and doesn't suit me at all *sigh*  I'm really excited about the other products especially the bobby spinners. I can't seem to manage regular bobby pins so hopefully they're easier to use.

Hope you all enjoyed this post and have an amazing Easter break! Make sure to eat lots of chocolate because it doesn't count during Easter right? :p I'm on break now for uni so most of my time will be dedicated to assignments which have seemed to pile up :/
