My Favourite Things #33

Passport
My passport finally came today and I'm really excited to have one. It's my first and I'm really fascinated with it.  Thanks to it being black and white I look very washed out in my photo, oh well.

Typo Diary
On Tuesday I went into Uni for an orientation thing and while I was there I thought I would go into Typo to see what diaries they had.  I was about to go for a blue/green one but then I saw this gorgeous peachy pink one, I love it.

Typo Letter
While I was there I saw these stick on letters. While I didn't need it I got one because it's pretty and I have no control. It's now stuck to my door.

Hope you all enjoyed this post and have an amazing weekend! Next week is the start of the first semester of uni, I'm a bit nervous but also looking forward to doing something that's not lounging around all day.

Bloodlines - The Ruby Circle

If you've been reading the blog for a while you'll know how much I love the Bloodline series as well as its predecessor Vampire Academy.  This is the last book of the series which I'm sad about but it had to end sometime.

I did a review of the previous book, Silver Shadows here. Like with that review if you haven't read the previous books be prepared to see some spoiler alerts, you've been warned.

This book again swaps between Adrian and Sydney's perspectives as they deal with the aftermath of them getting married and Jill being kidnapped.  The book is basically a journey of them finding her, Sydney coming up against an old enemy, as well as some other stuff which I'll won't mention.  There were a couple of omg moments which is great as they make the story more exciting and just makes me want to read the whole thing in one go.

Overall the book was great and the ending was good and nicely finished off the series with the characters getting their own happy endings.

Hope you all enjoyed this post! xx

My Favourite Things #32

1 Day Beauty Deals
1 Day is an awesome website which has three different deals which last for one day.  Last week they had some beauty deals which I had to have a look at. I was so tempted to get a O.P.I set but ended up just getting one thing.  They had three Maybelline Volume Express Mascaras for $20 which I thought was a great deal as one is basically $20 anyway.  I needed a new mascara so now I've got some backups.

Love Tanya
This is Tanya's first book and I wasn't planning on getting it but when she started sharing images from the book I had to get it. The photo's are all gorgeous and I love how bright and pink the cover is.  The books a mix of everything; recipes, beauty tips, fashion tips and other things. I'm really excited to read it.

Getting out of the house
Uni hasn't started yet and over the break I've just been at home all of the time. Yesterday I ventured into uni to go to the library *yawn* but it was nice to have a change of scenery and just walk around the city.

Hope you all enjoyed this post and have a great weekend! xx

Feel Unique #003

It's always a bad idea to go onto sites like Feel Unique when I'm board as there will always be something added to the basket which somehow I will end up buying.

I can't remember if I was looking for something in particular or in fact wanted them all but I've read great things about all these products so I just had to see for myself.

Maybelline The Eye Eraser
Lately I've been seeing this concealer being raved about by Essie Button so naturally I had to get some for myself.  I'm pretty sure you can't get these in NZ so when I found it on Feel Unique I was pretty pleased.  It's a bit different to other concealers in that you have to twist the top for the product to come out and oozes through a fluffy applicator. It's a bit weird but I'm getting use to it.

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Pink Gold
This probably was a bit unnecessary but the colour was so pretty that I just couldn't help myself.  Once again I had heard great things about these so thought I would get one especially since they were WAY cheaper online than in Farmers.

Rimmel Apocalips Matte Liquid Lipstick
I mentioned the red one in Monday's post but I also got another one. I was only going to get one but I couldn't decided so I got both. The other shade is Atomic Rose and is more of a nude shade.  Like I said about Burning Lava it's long lasting, had great pigmentation and overall is just gorgeous.

Hope you all enjoyed this post! xx

Red Red Red

When looking through my lip products I realise that one colour dominates the rest.  It's not surprising as when looking at lipsticks I'm immediately drawn to the shade of red. I can't really explain why, I just love the colour and I always see people *Taylor Swift being one* look absolutely amazing with a red lip and I just have to have it.

When looking at all these swatches I started to realise how similar the shades are... It's not intentional I swear.

Top to Bottom

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Crème in 435 Love that Pink
Even thought it has pink in it's name it's more red that pink. It definitely had pink in it, and maybe orange making it not a true red. I'm pretty sure this was the first kinda real lipstick I bought, the purchase may a slightly been influenced by it's name.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in 985 Infra-Red
As it's name suggest it's a bright red with orange tones.  I remember almost not buying it but my weakness for all this red got the better of me and here we are.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in 625 Are You Red-dy
This one is more darker than 985 and is more of a true red which is why I bought it. I'd come to realise I like these shades of red more rather than the orange tone ones.

Rimmel Apocalips Matte in Burning Lava
One of the two 'lip glosses' that I have and is pretty amazing. As it's name suggests it goes on matte and pretty much stays on all day. It's the perfect red and could almost be a dupe for the one below...

Lime Crime Velvetine in Red Velvet
The Velvetines are known to be amazing and stay on all day. When deciding on what one to get I couldn't go past Red Velvet.  It's a little bit more of a brighter red that the Rimmel one but otherwise they're basically identical.

Rimmel Kate Moss in 107
As you can see it's more of your darker red, in fact compared to the others it's more purple-ly than anything.  I'm a real big fan of the darker winter reds, the more the better.

Lime Crime in Glamour 101
This shade is about as dark as they come which is amazing. It's kind of like a burnt brown-y red I guess but I love it all the same.

So that's my collection (so far) of my red lip products. Hope you all enjoyed this post! xx

Venus and Adonis - Titian

Source: http://www.wga.hu

It's been a while since an art post has graced the blog and I thought it was long overdue.  These days I've been stressing trying to think of a topic to write my Research paper about.  I stumbled upon the 'Poesie' paintings by Titian that were painted for Phillip II of Spain which I found interesting.

'Poesie' (Poems) was how Titian himself described the artworks with them being the visual version of Ovid's Metamorphoses.  There are several paintings in the series with Titian creating multiple versions of some of the paintings including this one, one in Madrid and the other in Rome.

Venus and Adonis was designed to be viewed alongside Danaë with a Nurse, a painting from the same series with a related composition and are hung together.

While the paintings are based on Ovid's work Titian did change some details in his paintings.

The painting depicts Venus, the goddess of love who falls in love with Adonis, a beautiful youth. Her love however is not enough to stop him pursuing his favourite pastime, hunting, which will lead to his undoing as he is gored to death by a boar.  The scene symbolizes the force of the hunt call which is a metaphor of life and of worldly affairs which is stronger than that of love (embodied by Eros, sleeping under trees on the left).

Hope you all enjoyed this post and have a great weekend! xx

Naked Basics Palette

I bought this last year as a gift to myself to celebrate me getting my degree after three long years.  I've always heard amazing things about the Naked Palettes and I want them all but I decided to start small so I went for the first Naked Basics.

I haven't used them yet as my eyebrows are horrible so I just avoid the area all together and also I have no idea what I'm doing. The shades are neutral and gorgeous so they're perfect for everyday wear.

I love Venus, it's the shimmery one of the palette so need I say more. I have a weak spot for all shimmery things if you didn't know.

Other than that I love W.O.S and Naked 2. W.O.S is what I describe as skin colour (I'm not good at this) and Naked 2 is a warm brown and is just overall gorgeous.

From swatching it they're very buttery and have great pigmentation so I'm excited to try them out.

Hope you all enjoyed this post! This is pretty much the most expensive makeup item I own and I was very excited when it arrived.

Skinfood Mud Masque

Hey

I'm in a couple of beauty Facebook groups; Makeup Obsessives and Everything Beauty Related - Shaaanxo and I'm not sure whether it was one or both but I've been seeing this mud masque pop up very frequently with rave reviews.  I of course had to try it, you can get it at the supermarket but I bought mine online. The masque itself is really cheap, there was free shipping and I got a free head band and a number of samples.

Skinfood is a New Zealand brand and is made in NZ. The mud masque is made with mud from Rotorua which is pretty cool.

I've used the mask a couple of times and I really like it.  The product is really smooth and goes on really easily.  The only downside is that it makes my eye water, yes that's right only my left eye waters which a bit weird.  When it fully dries I can literally not move my face and I can see all the blackheads on and around my nose.  It comes off easily with water and my skin doesn't feel dry afterwards but smooth instead.

Hope you all enjoyed this post!! xx

January Review

Hey

I can't quite believed that it's February all ready, January went by with a blur and nothing really happened apart from me seriously committing to do Honours. EEEEEK, what have I done!  Now I'm stressing about picking a good topic for my main research essay *sigh*

Anyway here are the posts which when up on the blog this month

Before Christmas Smashbox had a 12 Days of Giveaways thing on their Facebook page and I won a lip product!

Lime Crime won't be stocked online other than the official website so I quickly went on Makeup.co.nz and grabbed one.

A few NZ Bloggers were doing this tag so I thought I would too as I constantly have a case of Wanderlust.

My first ever OOTD. I just really liked my outfit that day and thought to share.

This was my first iHerb order, after hearing so much about it I just had to buy some things.

So that was January! Hope you all enjoyed this post and hopefully February has something great in store for you :D
