Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick

Hey

So on Saturday the fam and I went out shopping, firstly because my sister needed to get a ball dress; the experience was a bit of an eye opener for me if you know my sister.  We did stop by Farmers which was good for me as they were having 25% off all Revlon products and I had some gift cards so it was too good and opportunity to miss.

I brought two products, I'll do a post on the other one later on.

Colour 435, Love that Pink
So I pretty much swatched every colour on my hand and out of all of them this one took my fancy the most.  I might of (yes I did) picked this colour because of the name (Love that Pink), as you've seen in my previous post I am a fan of the colour pink.  Despite the name the colour is not really pink, it's more of a red when you look at it.  When compared it to my other lip colours that are very red and pink the colour is very orange which is interesting but still looks nice.

The lipstick is really creamy to put on and wear, it's easy to apply and does not wear easily which is a major plus.  I am definitely going back to get more colours.

Hope you all enjoyed this post

Daily Inspiration - Pink

Hey

So today was the first day back to uni which means an end to sleep ins and basically just doing nothing all day.  This post is kind of another daily inspiration type thing since whenever I see this thing it brightens up my day.  This time around it's a colour and my renewed love for it was inspired when I started to paint my nails (and are still in the process of doing).

Pop Challenge Pink
This is just an outfit I made on Polyvore using my fave colour
That's right, it's pink. It's not really a surprise really since my blog is mainly pink, but oh well I love the colour.  When deciding what to paint my nails I was in a pink kind of mood so I started to paint them in O.P.I's Strawberry Margarita (I pretty much picked the colour because of the name). It's a bright bubble-gum pink, It always reminds me of something sweet and in general just makes my happy.

Hope you all enjoyed this post. Would love to know what makes you happy, whether it's a colour or whatever.

My Favourite Things #1

Hey

So I've been trying of thinking of something to do for Friday's post as a kind of a bookmark for the end of the week kind of thing.  I've come up with idea where I just post my three or however how many favourite things each week which could include art, clothes or blog posts.

So here it goes...

Fav piece of art of the week
This one was really hard as there are so many great works of art that I love but I went with a piece by an artist who I discovered and fell in love with last year.

Caravaggio - Boy with a Basket of Fruit, 1593-94

There are many reasons why I love this artist. One is his realistic depiction of muscles, still-life as well as drapery which is on display in the image above.  He is known for is dramatic compositions which are full of action and movement, some of his subject matter such as the one above is very seductive which is helped by the dramatic lighting which is one of his defining features.

Fav piece of clothing - Leopard print leggings

I'm on break at the moment and I've been spending all my time at home which means I get to wear anything I want and not get judged.  When getting dressed in the morning I've put these one on more than one occasion.  The main reason why I love them is that there're comfy, there're not too heavy and also the print makes me feel daring.  While I do love wearing them there're restricted to the home as I am not that daring to wear them out.

Fav Blog Post - 'My Shoe Collection' Lily Pebbles
There are always a large number which I really like but this one really stood out.  I love how upbeat and fun it was, the editing was great, and was a really cool way to show off her shoes, which by the way are amazing and I want some.

You can watch it here

Hope you enjoyed this post, if you do let me know, I hope to make this a weekly thing :)

Tuesday Adventure - Auckland Art Gallery

Hey

So yesterday I had to make a little trip into the city which meant getting up really early :(.  A book I had had got recalled so it was kind of a forced trip, but I made use of my time and being a good student I went straight to the libraries.  After being sick of looking at books I had lunch and went to one of my favourite places in Auckland, the Art Gallery.

I don't know why but I just love going to the gallery and walking through it, looking at the variety of different art and being able to look up close at it which is a nice change from seeing it off a power point in my lectures.  The gallery has a variety of art from contemporary to more traditional pieces and in some exhibitions there are digital pieces such as the one I saw yesterday that also had accompanying music to it.  As well as the art, I also love the architecture of the building.  I especially love the classical features, which interests the ancient historian in me, such as the Doric and Corinthian order columns in the different galleries.

One of my dream jobs would be to be able to work in a gallery like this or a museum and be able to work with art everyday. The gallery has opportunities to volunteer which is something I am seriously considering.

Hope you all enjoyed this post

Art Theft - Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum

Hey

One of the papers I'm doing this semester is on Art Crime, and through doing this paper I've learned all about infamous thefts that have occurred mainly in Museums or Art Galleries.  One of them, the Gardner theft, is particularly interesting with how the thieves got in and also by the fact that to this day the art stolen has not yet been recovered.

On the night of March 18, 1990, a pair of thieves, disguised as Boston police officers, tricked and tied up two security guards and entered the Museum and roamed the Museum’s galleries, stealing thirteen works of art.  These works included a number of Rembrandt's including the Storm on the Sea of Galilee, Vermeer’s The Concert as well as a finial from the top of a pole support for a Napoleonic silk flag.  This last item confused investigators as the item was not as valuable as the paintings, and was chosen over other more valuable paintings such as a Titan, which led them to believe that the theft was possibly 'made to order' in that a collector had specific interest in these items and hired people to acquire them.

Storm on the Sea of Galilee by Rembrandt and The Concert by Vermeer are ones of particular interest and importance as there are only 34 known works by Vermeer in the world including the stolen work and the Storm on the Sea of Galilee is Rembrandt's only known seascape which makes both pieces of considerable worth.  The stolen pieces are estimated to be a loss of $500 million, making the robbery the largest private property theft ever

The owner, Isabella Stuart Gardner, wished for the Museum to not be altered at all.  In accordance with those wishes the empty frames that once held the works are hung in their original place which can be seen in the photo above.  Like when the Mona Lisa went missing people come to see where the crime took place and wonder if they will ever see these stolen master pieces again.

Hope you all enjoyed this post

New Discovery - Polyvore

Hey

So little over a week ago I joined this website called Polyvore and since then I'm pretty much been obsessed with it.  I joined to create a set to design different ways to wear with a piece of any collection by Pop Basic with pink accessories.  It was so much fun, it allowed me to get back into my creative side and style an outfit.

On the website you can create any sort of sets you want, there's literally millions of different images to use ranging from beauty, fashion to home ware.  The website even has it's own competitions which you can create a set for based on just a colour or specific piece of clothing.  As well as that you can also create collections of make up, accessories, shoes or whatever you want.  What's also cool is that every image has below it what website it's from such as ASOS or Topshop so you could buy it if you wanted to and has the price in New Zealand Dollars.

These are some of my designs...

The White Shirt

Coral Lips
Celeb Home Syle - Alexa Chung

Hope you all enjoyed this post. The link to my profile is along the sidebar and I hope you all try out the website. Hope you all have a good Easter and enjoy the long weekend :D

The Beauty Scenario Tag

Hey

So I've seen a couple of blogs to this tag, so I thought that I would join in.  The tag was originally created by Lily Pebbles and I hope you enjoy my set of answers.

You have to get rid of all your foundations and you can only keep one high end and one drugstore. Which do you keep?
I don't have any high end foundations so if I had to pick one I'd say Nars Sheer Glow foundation.  I've heard great things about this foundation and would love to try it myself.  Drugstore would have to be Revlon Colourstay, it's pretty much the only one I have at the moment but works well for me.

You go for an interview and the lady interviewing you has lipstick on her teeth. Do you approach the subject or ignore it
I would ignore it.  It would just make the interview awkward, especially for her.  Maybe you could gently tell her after the interview is finished.

You're not feeling your best and need a pick me up. Which lipstick do you put on to make yourself feel beautiful?
It would have to be a tie between my Lime Crime in Centrifuchsia and Rimmel Apocalips 303.  There're both bright purlpley pinks and make a statement

You go back in time for a day to your teenage years, how would you do your hair and makeup differently?
For some reason I was all about having really long hair, so it was just flat and at that age I didn't really do anything to it, I mostly just wore it down.  Looking back now I would have cut it sooner, these days long hair just annoys me.  I didn't really wear makeup either, I really got into it after I left high school.

You ask your hairdresser for a shoulder-length Pixie Lott haircut but they hear wrong and give you a pixie cut. Do you a) Smile, say thank you, leave & call your Mum hysterical? b) Cry in the chair and things get awkward? c) Complain to the manager and demand a refund?
I would probably have to go with A.  I hate when things get awkward and I really don't like confrontation.  I would probably cry at home and would never go to that hairdresser again.

Your friend surprises you with a 4 day city break and you have 1 hour to pack. Which ‘do it all’ palette do you pack in your makeup bag?
I don't have any palettes at all that I could take.  If I had any I would take some Chi Chi ones in either Nudes or Bronzes and if I was lucky enough to have one a Urban Decay Naked Palette.

Your house has been robbed, don’t worry everyone is safe, but your beauty stash has been raided. What’s the product you really hope is safe?
Number one would have to be my Lime Crime lipsticks.  There're the most expensive lipsticks I own especially Centrifuchsia.  I would also hate if my foundation is gone, I NEED it.

Your friend borrows your makeup and returns it in awful condition. Do you a) Just pretend you haven’t noticed or b) Ask them to repurchase it or c) Secretly do the same to something of theirs?
Once again I would go with A.  I don't really like lending stuff out to begin with so if I did it was probably not that important to me or was about to run out or it was cheap and I could easily but another.

Hope you all enjoyed this post

Favourite Book Series - Vampire Academy

Hey

So when I have some spare time I love to just lay on my bed and read a good book.  I've pretty much read every book I currently have so I start re-reading series that I really love and never get bored of.  I thought I might share some series that I love.

Vampire Academy - Richelle Mead

I got into the series when I was gifted the first two books for Christmas a couple of years ago.  I hadn't heard of the series before and was unsure if I like them.  By the time I was in the middle of reading the first book I was hooked and needed to get the rest of the series.

The storyline of the series follows Rose Hathaway, a Dhampir, who are half-human, half-vampire whose jobs are to protect the Moroi, the good vampires.  The books chronicle her adventures with her best friend Lissa, a royal Moroi princess who she has a physic bond with, as well Dimitri, her teacher who she is in love with and mostly takes place within the walls of St. Vladimir's Academy.

The books are humorous, with Rose and Christian having some great one-liners but also has a serious side with characters being killed, going through some really serious problems and dealing with the constant threat of Strigoi, the bad vampires.

The series also has a love triangle element, which pretty much every book and movie has these days, but it's kind of clear who Rose is leaning towards more throughout the books. But it still sucks that the guy you like more in the series (Adrian) gets his heart broken.  But don't fear things look up for him is the sequel series, which I will do a post on.

Hope you all enjoyed this post. I've seen a few blogs do the Beauty Scenario Tag, so I might possibly do that for my next post, maybe ;)

Daily Inspiration - The Crimes of Paris

Hey

So lately I've being trying take a good look at things and find things that inspire me.  While researching for an essay I found this book entailing the story of the theft of the Mona Lisa.  While the book was very helpful for my research (as well as interesting to read) I was really struck by the title of the book as well as the design of the cover and the front page.

When I first saw the book the first thing that struck me was (of course) the cover.  I liked how the title took up the majority of the cover with the key words 'Crime' and 'Paris' being larger and in different fonts.  I particularly love the font 'Paris' is in; it kind of reminds of font that is on carnival/fair posters.  I also love the title itself; it's very attention grabbing and I don't know why I just like the word crime (especially combined with art) and of course love anything to do with Paris.  The background image fits well with the title and the font with it showing old style French architecture which for me adds to the French feel of the book.

On the front page, before the book starts, it again has the title but styled very differently.  The image gives a strong Art Nouveau feel, most particularly with the amazing font as well as it's background, a oval with embellished border which reminds of vintage hand held mirrors.  The image kind of brought back memories for me as in Yr 12 design we look at Art Nouveau, which then made me remember how long ago it was... On a positive note, it's made me get into looking at Art Nouveau style design which is amazing!

Hope you all enjoyed this post.  I am now finally on mid-semester break (YAY!) which means no more early mornings :) I do however have a couple of essay's that need starting *sigh* but it's better to start earlier that later ;)  Hope you enjoy the weekend!

Jan Van Eyck - Arnolfini Double Portrait

Hey

So I'm currently in my third year of my BA in Art History and with my courses I see repeated pieces of art.  This paining I swear is stalking me.  I first saw it in year 11 Visual Art and I thought it was the most creepiest painting ever.  Fast forward to now, I still think it's creepy but the painting itself is amazing due to the artist's technique, and how realistic it is.

When I first saw the painting it was the two figures that kind of put me off.  They kind of look like long skinny dolls which creepy faces, especially the male figure.  Apart from that the other features of the room are skilfully done by van Eyck, who was said to be one the greatest painters of all time, and the first to master oil paint.  It’s his use of oil paint that allows him to achieve the bright colours of the red bed and the green dress.  It also allows him to masterfully create tonal modelling, giving the painting depth and making the setting look like a realistic space.  He is also very skilful with light and shadow, as seen on the chandelier, which adds to the reality of the painting.  A cool feature of the work is the mirror on the wall behind them.  Looking at it you can see the reflection of the scene and see that there are two other figures in the room, one of them possibly being the artist.
The scene depicted is said to celebrate the marriage of the two figures.  The painting is full of symbolism which adds significance to the work.  The dog at their feet, with his skilfully done fur represents loyalty and possibly wealth.  The colour green represents hope, possibly referencing her desire to have children, which was an important aspect women in the 15th century had to fulfil.

Parisian Staple

Hey

I recently got a new dress from Farmers which I thought I might share with you all.  I really like it, its very classic, you can wear it anywhere and it sort has a Parisian feel to it; or at least it does to me.

No Issue Striped Skater Dress
Usually $59.99, got it on sale for $41.99

I love the classic black and white stripes, which kind of make me look flatter in my stomach region, along with coming in at the waist, which is a big plus.  It's not too short or too long and the capped sleeves add to it's kind of vintage, Parisian feel which I love.

This dress is most definitely going to be my current favourite and will probably wear it any chance I get and would go well with some red lippy.

Hope you all enjoyed this post

Current Scents

Hey

So literally the first thing I do every morning is put on some perfume.  It's something I've always done and when I don't I just don't feel like my appearance is complete.  I've gone through a couple of different perfumes during my time so I thought I'd share my current ones that use.

Curious - Britney Spears
This is the third bottle I've had of this particular fragrance which shows just how much I really like this scent.  I've had a couple of other Britney Spears perfumes but this one has to be my favourite.  I don't really like strong sharp scents, if that makes any sense, I like them kind of sweet and soft so it's not too overpowering.  This scent is just that it's sweet and it's a smell I've become accustomed to.  I'm almost out of this bottle, I'm not sure yet if I want to get it again or try something new.

Fame - Lady Gaga
When I heard Lady Gaga was bringing out a fragrance I was kind of excited, I am a fan of hers and was interested to see what kind of scent it would be.  I got it as a gift for Christmas, two years ago and it is still one of my favourite scents.  I love how quirky the bottle is and how the liquid is black.  As you can see it's running out which is sad as I can't find anywhere that sells them anymore *sigh*.

Golden Delicious Intense: Donna Karen New York
I got this perfume for my birthday last month and was a bit unsure  if I would like it or not.  At first I thought it was a bit strong and sharp but after a while I got used to it and I love it.  It's not as sweet as Curious and is a bit of a mature scent I guess.  It says it is accentuated with the scent of a juicy apple, hence the name, but I can't really smell it; but it is sharp and sweet like an apple.

I kind of overlap these perfumes, putting on any random one in the morning and evening so now I kind of smell like all three, which is interesting but nice.

Hope you all enjoyed this post. I would love to know what perfumes are your favourites. Hopefully it will help me out next time I get a new one ;)
